ASPIRE Super Kids: Partners & Possibilities
Wednesday, November 29th, artist Blake Schnormeier returned to visit the East Union ASPIRE Super Kids. This month the students learned about the medium of water colors. Blake made a variety of screen print designs that the kids got to paint. They used water color markers, pencils, and paints to experiment with blending colors and practicing their skills.
Blake introduced the kids to a very famous post-impressionist artist named Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands in 1853. In just over a decade as an artist, he created almost 2100 works, including about 860 oil paintings, most done in the last two years of his life. Van Gogh became famous after his suicide following years of poverty and mental illness at the young age of 37.
The kids had the opportunity to do several paintings. Blake emphasized how many people in his life have enjoyed receiving artwork over the years as special gifts and he encouraged them to complete their projects to be shared for holiday gifts.
