ASPIRE Super Kids: Partners & Possibilities
On December 13th, the ASPIRE Super Kids welcomed Jodi Hitz back from ISU Extension. This month’s lesson focused on grains. She brought an assortment of cereal, crackers and breads and challenged the kids to identify the healthier choices. Did you know that if the first ingredient listed on the package contains the word “whole” (such as “whole wheat flour” or “whole oats”), it is likely – but not guaranteed – that the product is predominantly whole grain? Whole grain foods provide fiber, vitamins, minerals and nutrients that help control cholesterol levels, weight, and blood pressure.
Mrs. Hitz and the kids then headed to the kitchen to make a healthy whole grain holiday treat. They measured cereals, melted marshmallows and mixed up a sweet and gooey alternative option to the traditional Christmas goodies.
Thank you to Mrs. Hitz, for being one of ASPIRE’s partners this year. We truly appreciate the expertise she has brought to our students and look forward to learning more about healthy food in the new year.
