The following are some of the staffing challenges we've faced over the past few years that prompted this conversation:

  • Science: without a chemistry teacher for 3 years, looking again for next year

  • Physics: without a physics teacher for 4 years, still looking

  • Math: without a math teacher for 2 years, shuffling staff to cover for next year.

  • Elementary Counselor: able to coerce a retiree back at part time, no other applicants

  • Secondary Special Ed.: able to get an applicant on provisional license

  • Talented and Gifted: We were able to convince a retired teacher from Clarke to work 2.5 days a week to cover this position.

  • Elementary Special Education: We hired in late June of 2023 (there was only one applicant). We currently need a full time Special Education teacher; we have zero applicants.

  • Elementary General Education, Grades Kindergarten and Two: We hired new teachers this year; there were only three qualified applicants.  These positions used to be the most sought-after elementary jobs.

  • Music, no applicants for a year.

  • Secondary ELA; we hired 4 teachers in 2020, 3 took other jobs after 2 years and the fourth left last year for a school on a 4-day week. Posting this position again this year as we are down 1 already

  • Secondary special education: we have 3 special education positions and have had 8 teachers in those positions in the last 4 years.

  • MS Social Studies: 6 different teachers since 2015.

  • In 22-23; started the year down 5 teachers - music, ELA, math, science, special education

    • days before the start of the year we had a special education applicant who accepted

    • Special education teacher was moved to ELA due to licensure in order to cover required courses

    • Math and science courses moved online

    • Music made a K-12 position

  • Will be posting for our 3rd business teacher in 4 years

We have been able to meet student needs thanks to our great staff that has been willing and able to be flexible in their assignments, along with utilizing some online courses.

GO EAGLES!
