The scene at East Union earlier this week was filled with great food and fun. “Lunch with the Law” and “Popsicles with the Police” were held to show the Union County Law Enforcement and Juvenile Court Services’ commitment to enhance the trust of students and the community. “Lunch with the Law” began with the Juvenile Court Probation Officers, Blake Lauffer and Brian Burkhalter grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for the Middle and High School students and staff. Officers present to serve were: Sgt Dan McNeil, Union Co Sheriff’s Office; Deputy Dillon Hightshoe, Union Co Sheriff’s Office; Chief Jake McGuire, Afton Police Department; Trooper Garret Burkhalter, Iowa State Patrol; and Trooper Gavin Bolton, Iowa State Patrol. Students were able to enjoy a beautiful day eating outside and burning off a little energy outside. After serving the Middle and High School students and staff, the law officers joined everyone at the track. The officers then moved to the Elementary where students stationed themselves in a line up to enjoy a sweet treat in their classrooms. The evidence was clear, it was a fun event for everyone!
