Congratulations to the East Union League of Legends Esports team for securing their spot in the 2024 IAHSEA League of Legends State Competition! East Union was seeded 5th to advance automatically. The IAHSEA LoL State Competition will be held at Marshalltown CC on May 15th.
Another wonderful pen pal meet and greet! The third grade classes have been writing letters with their pen pal all year though a program that Tammy Ross oversees along with the teachers. The kids were always so ecstatic when their letters would arrive, and today they were able to meet their pen pals in person! It was a great day of strengthening friendships. Thank you to all the volunteers and Tammy that make this experience so special!
Today's Boy's Golf meet in Chariton has been cancelled. The meet will now, tentatively, be held tomorrow morning, Friday 5/3 at 10 am. Once teams are confirmed, the rescheduling will be confirmed and additional communication will be sent.
Iowa’s top academic students were chosen by their member schools for the 2023 Governor’s Scholar Program.
On April 27th, seniors were honored as high academic achievers. It is our honor to recognize Audrey Young as the East Union 2023 Governor’s Scholar.

Yes! We are still planning to host Family Literacy and STEM Learning Night beginning at 5:30 tonight (April 30th) in the elementary gym. Come on out and see “The Paper Airplane Guy,” enjoy some pizza, and get a free book authored by the Airplane Guy himself, Mr. John Collins. It was a great afternoon of learning with our guest presenter and all of our Little Eagles!

A big day for our Littlest Eagles: TK-Kindergarten Signing Day! We welcomed a very excited group of students to visit their new transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms for the fall of 2024. All are ready for their next adventure with credit given to our East Union Early Childhood Center and Joyful Sparks staff members for working so hard to prepare them for TK and Kindergarten! A big “Thank You” to Mrs. Hardisty for creating the signing station, and to our TK-Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Stover, Ms. Baudler, and Mrs. Ramsey for making this a special morning for our newest East Union Eagles!
Congratulations to Seth Rippenger!! Seth won the 2024 Iowa Skills USA Automotive Refinish High School contest. Seth is a junior at East Union and is enrolled in SWCC’s Career Academy. Seth will now represent Iowa, SWCC and his high school at the 2024 National Skills USA Conference/Contest in June at Atlanta, GA.
Any students entering 9th through 12th grade next school year interested in joining cheer, tryouts start next week. We will host a clinic on 4.30, 5.1, and 5.3 from 5:30pm-7pm in the CLC. We will learn the material and tryouts will be on 5.4 from 9-11am in the HS Gym. Please contact Mrs. McCollough with questions.
Was it Christmas in April for Mr. Patten’s fifth grade students? Almost! Two STEM carts arrived today, thanks to Mr. Patten’s STEM Best Award! The funds are being used to purchase a variety of materials that will give students access to career-related projects that align beautifully with our Computer Science, Science, and Mathematics curricula. Our fifth graders had a great time unpacking and organizing their new learning resources. Meanwhile, a classroom garden beautifies the learning environment for all who dwell there.
There will be no JH Boys or Girls Track practice tomorrow, Thursday 4/25.
EU Sophomore Morgan Cooley will be competing at the Drake Relays on Thursday and Friday! Morgan will be throwing Discuss in the 1st Flight at 2:30 pm Thursday 4/25 and the 2nd Flight of Shot Put at 9 am on Friday 4/26! Good Luck Morgan!
The Boy's track team would also like to thank the EU Booster Club for purchasing tickets for the team to attend and cheer on Morgan, when he throws on Thursday!
Field Biology class attended two field trips this month. Students learned about the water treatment process at 12 Mile Water Treatment Plant and how wastewater is processed at Creston Wastewater Treatment Plant. Also, students toured Rathbun Fish Hatchery as part of their Iowa Fisheries Unit.
