East Union Elementary boasts an incredible STEM program, thanks to the efforts of all of our teachers. Last year, our school was awarded a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) BEST (Businesses Engaging Students and Teachers) grant, acquired by fourth and fifth grade Science teacher Mr. Marcus Patten. Together with Mrs. Robin McNutt (Computer Science/Technology teacher) and Ms. Autumn Hoadley (Mathematics teacher), Mr. Patten completes the STEM acronym with Engineering projects such as those shown here. Students applied all of this learning to the construction of working robots with materials purchased from the grant funding. In addition, students will soon be creating programs to produce objects via 3D printers, such as the one pictured. Many thanks to all of our teachers for integrating Computer Science and STEM lessons with other Core subject areas. Our Little Eagles have some amazing foundational skills that will serve them well in future careers!
Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away, and we have so much for which to be grateful! Many thanks to Zach and Andi Clear and family for planning a great event for all East Union families, and to our PTO staff members who helped make last Friday evening’s Costume Party and Dance such fun. Our next PTO meeting is Wednesday, November 6th at 4:00 at El Ranchito in Afton. Plans will soon be underway for our annual carnival, among other community events and fundraisers. Please consider joining us; all East Union families and friends are welcome!
